We’ve been saying it for a while now. 2013 is the year of the duo from the triumphant return of disco loving Frenchmen Daft Punk to the emergence of UK pairings Disclosure and AlunaGeorge we’ve found that two heads really have been better than one this year. The latest twosome to be making waves have been the dynamic duo Him_self_Her and we’re delighted to welcome the inter-gender outfit to deliver this weeks podcast ahead of their performance this weekend at Sankeys Ibiza.
Hailing from Leicester in the UK, the astute combination of Claire and Leon came together after honing individual skills for many years on their local scene. All that it took was one studio session to realise the potency of their union; and what a union it is. With a combined sound that sees them skip across genres from all over the electronic music spectrum Him_self_Her are mavericks by their own admission be it bold house choices, driving techno, obscurely selected samples or self penned hits. Having spent no less than 11 weeks at number 1 in the Beatport new disco chart with hit track ‘Gone Too Long’ it wasn’t long before Claire and Leon attracted the attention of the scenes biggest names with the track becoming Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ and making it into Jamie Jones closing set at DC10 in addition to seeing them signed by Damien Lazarus for his hot label Crosstown Rebels.
So with big things on the horizon for the duo including this weekends performance on the White Isle for Sankeys may we introduce you to the house infused sounds of Him_self_Her…

A new direction from our twisted souls.. deep and dark!
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Well, we're going to cheat on this one and give you 2 tracks, so that we can sneakily include one of our own...
Him_Self_Her - Home
Roscoe Sledge - Frisson
Whenever we drop Frisson in the club, the second drop always gets a massive reaction... no doubt that track will be in our sets for a long time yet.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Thinking! (We know, you are wondering...WHAT!)
Well... we get sent a huge amount of promos and spend countless hours searching for and buying new tracks. We're constantly on the look out for that special groove or drop that makes a track work and stands it out from the rest. You could definitely say that we are music addicts and we put a massive amount of time, effort (and joint brainpower!) into our tune selection and of course our own music.
Plus every time we are in the studio working on a new mix or production, we try to imagine we're in a club playing to a few hundred people and how their reaction would be to the music... sounds easy, but it can actually get pretty bizarre when we're dancing around trying to make the room into our own little club (This gives us the perfect chance to apologise to the neighbours actually... SORRY!)
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
That would have to be Dublin. We played for a night called Bedlam recently and had been booked alongside Bakermat so we were slightly worried about our music style being a little on the deeper side.
BUT our fears were very quickly put to rest, as the crowd from the word go were totally down with our new style and gave us such an incredible response to every tune we dropped. It actually turned out to be one of the best, if not THE best gig we have ever played; the most memorable moment being our first ever crowd rush, as around 30 people stormed the stage and almost pulled us off the decks... CRAZY!!
What have you got coming up?
Gig wise, in June we have Barcelona and Ibiza, which we can’t wait for, especially as it’s our first gig as Him_Self_Her on the great white island and to be playing at Sankeys in Ibiza for The Underground night this Saturday at Carnival is a massive privilege for us!
July sees us making our debut at Face in Birmingham, which is an incredible event and you can also catch us playing in Manchester, Liverpool and London....
Production wise, obviously we have the Crosstown Rebels release to come out this year, with a little surprise to go with it, which we are really looking forward to.
Also we have a single coming out on Sex Panda White, plus a remix we have done of the late great Romanthony, which is forthcoming on Glasgow Underground later this year.
AND.. as per, we have another massive HSH announcement to come very soon, so watch this space... we are dying to tell you but we can’t, haha!
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
We would just like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone that has supported us over the past year, the response we have had so far, to both our productions and our gigs, has been amazing and we are truly grateful.
And our final words of advice are… just remember the golden rule…
Never make eye contact while eating a banana.
Much love, HSH x

We aren’t sure what it about Scandinavia that allows the region to produce such a high volume of quality electronic music but there surely must be something to it. The air? The water? Well we can neither confirm or deny any theory regarding why the area is such a hotbed of creativity for electronica but rather revel in the Nordic cool. This weeks Podcast sees us head to Sweden as Martin Swanstein, better know to you and me as Martinez delivers up this slickly driven mix marauding through the annuals of House and Techno.
After moving to Copenhagen from his native Sweden in 2000 Martinez has enjoyed a rapid rise through the industry where he landed a record deal with the renowned Guidance Recording label in Chicago. Several EP’s later and Martinez found himself one of the most sought after remixers in the world with reworks commissioned by some of the scenes biggest names such as Danish pop/house act Filur as well as Silicone Soul, Jussi Pekka, Dibaba, Spiro Projecto and later Underworld, Luna City Express, Miss Kittin, Mathew Dear & Seth Troxler and his remix of Nathan Fake's “The Sky Was Pink” became a key weapon in many a DJ’s arsenal. He then spent the rest of decade building his reputation as one of the worlds best DJ’s, producers and label bosses playing the hottest night spots across the globe.
So after remixing a who’s who of the DJ world, launching several labels of his own for both his own music and that of his talented friends and crafting 3 esteemed albums on the way we thought it was high time we secured his services for the DT podcast. A DJ’s DJ along with reputedly impeccable taste Martinez has a strong DJ reputation worldwide with him often seen in the booths of various quality clubs and parties around the globe including a set of summer dates at the iconic Cocoon parties in Ibiza. So without further ado let us introduce you to the sublime sounds of Martinez. Enjoy.

There have only ever been a few bands that have been able to bridge the gap between rock and electronic music and we think that Belgian four-piece Goose are firmly one of them. 7 years after the release of their much hyped debut album on skint records the boys have developed a much harder electronic edge whilst retaining the energy that has seen their live show become such a coveted attraction around the continent.
The third album Control Control Control was recorded live in the studio by Paul Stacey and Dave Sardy before being released on GOOSE’s own label Safari Records. The album got a glowing reception and after becoming a firm favorite with many electronic music taste makers definitively announced them as a force within the scene..
After more than 400 concerts around the globe, their stage talent is well known. Only the truly great manage to sell out the Ancienne Belgique three nights running, as GOOSE did in February 2013 and with that we were delighted to acquire their talents for this weeks podcast as things get seriously acid during their mix. Play it loud!

Occasionally we like to go off the beaten track here at DT and deliver something that catches our fans by surprise so after Funkagenda’s stormer of podcast last week we thought we’d go leftfield and pluck a very talented artist from the relative obscurity for your aural delights this week. Step forward Rough Fields.
Rough Fields is the operating name of James Birchall, an electro-acoustic composer, lofi/noise/folk artist and electronica currently based in the electronic hotbed that is producer from Manchester. After wowing us with a sleek set of productions that range across several genres the man from the north is almost impossible to describe as anything other than cool but we’ll have a go anyway. His sound brings together the disparate strands of his previous musical paths through folk, classical, rock, minimalism, electronica, electro-acoustic and experimental composition. Imagine Steve Reich crossed with James Holden and some Deslot flavorings thrown in and you wouldn’t be far off. Check it out now…

Since the driving home from our Data Transmission Party in Manchester last Easter, where one of the DT Guys threw on a previous Space Ibiza mix, this driving tech house thump came out the speakers which subsequently had us jumping around the car. Due to the mix being sooo good, we've been after this man for the podcast since. He cleverly combines tracks, loops, edits to bring a energetic moving mix. Looking back at his past he’s collected Awards for Best Ibiza Track for 2008 with Mark Knight & a Grammy Nomination.
His first solo album was released on Toolroom in 2009 under the Toolroom Knights banner and is regularly achieving Beatport no1s. This weekend, the 8th June he returns to Ministry of Sound for his Funk Farm residency and over the summer he is a regular in Ibiza at Space, Privilege and more.
We bring you Funkagenda...

Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
A snapshot of my recent DJ sets from various countries.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
My remix of Zedd's "Clarity". It has more heart than most records I have ever produced.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Soylent Green...
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Well the Space Opening Fiesta was awesome + it was a chance to do something different. However, currently I am in India + the crowds here are pretty much the best I have ever experienced. There is a lot of happiness + appreciation involved in the music scene over here. It feels wonderful.
What have you got coming up?
Well I have an EP about to drop on Dim Mak records called the Samsara EP. It features two new originals: Half Man/Half Drugs + To The Moon + Back. It's a really nice big room EP tinged with electro, old trance, techno + house. I'm also busy gigging all over, but I'm really excited to be back at Ministry Of Sound on June 8th with my Funk Farm branded night. I'm gonna be joined by one of my favorite acts right now, Loops Of Fury + also Tom Swoon. It'll be pretty epic (Shameless plug). If anyone wants tickets they can go to: (Even more shameless plug).
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Yeah. Imagine if the hokey cokey really WAS what it was all about... *points finger at head + makes gun shooty noise* Mind Blown...
Tracklisting
1. The M Machine - Moon Song
2. Wolfgang Gartner - Anaconda
3. Mark Knight - Your Love
4. Audien - Wayfarer
5. Lazy Rich - Insomnia [John Dahlback Remix]
6. Cramp - 2030AD [Proff Remix]

9. Zedd - Clarity [Funkagenda Remix]
10. Funkagenda - Half Man Half Drugs
11. Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire [Cosmic Gate Remix]
12. Steve Angello + Laidback Luke feat Loretta - Be [Tool]
13. Ali Love - Diminishing Returns [Alvin Risk Remix]
14. Hundred Waters - Boreal [Brillz Remix]
Since the driving home from our Data Transmission Party in Manchester last Easter, where one of the DT Guys threw on a previous Space Ibiza mix, this driving tech house thump came out the speakers which subsequently had us jumping around the car. We love fresh at Data Transmission. We love new. We love exciting. So when somebody ticks all three of those boxes we don’t waste any further time in making sure we nab them for content before the rest of the world comes knocking and that’s why this weeks podcast is being supplied by the incredibly talented Hannah Wants as she continues here meteoric rise through the UK house scene and beyond.
For those of you not initiated with Hannah, she’s one of the new breed of DJ’s taking the current scene by storm after bursting into our musical consciousness with a blistering 2012. After blazing a trail across Ibiza with performances at Eden, Es Paradis, Space, Viva, and Vodka Club for the last few years Hannah returned to the UK to showcase her abilities at Creamfields, Annie Mac Presents and Cream 20th Anniversary Tour before getting her passport out to DJ across the globe from underground warehouse raves in Germany to mini-tours of South Africa and has even bigger plans for 2013. Now adding productions to her arsenal the House starlet has been getting some heavy support from some of the scenes coolest names from Ben UFO to Eats Everything we’d wager that she’s also set to have a big year production wise too.

Many of the worlds best DJ’s are the artists who fall in love with electronic music at an early age and the truly great ones are the ones who maintain that same level of teenage infatuation with the scene throughout their lives. So with that in mind we’re delighted to welcome Andrea Oliva to present this weeks guest podcast mix as his passion for the music is undeniable. Since teaching himself how to mix aged 13 after being inspired by the older kids at his youth club Andrea quickly established himself as one to watch and by the time he was 17 he had secured bookings at all of his native Switzerland's top clubs; before becoming resident DJ at three of them - Terminus, Pravda, and Pacha Zurich.
From here on out it was onwards and upwards for Andreas, hosting parties across Switzerland and before long his reputation for putting on brilliant club nights had soon spread across the continent, all the way to Ibiza, where Andrea was invited to play regularly at Space for their club night In Bed With Space. Productions followed next, with Andrea releasing tracks with some of the scenes coolest labels from Viva Music to Saved Records, Be As One and Cadenza Lab.
Now a fully fledged member of Luciano’s Cadenza crew we think this exclusive mix he delivered from the Ushusia opening party was one of the highlights of our time spent on the White Isle for the start of the summer and has certainly got us looking forward to catching him at Vertigo Festival soon! Play it loud!

Everybody loves blondes right? Well In the last few years we’ve become even more of a fan of the fair, well ish as Canadian born London based duo Blond:ish have captured our attention with their unique production recipe which focuses on the art of creating music that is organic and multi-dimensional. Provocative basslines contrast with smooth textures and haunting vocals to defy categorization as anything other than cool.
Thus it is with great excitement we welcome the girls in for this weeks podcast after a huge 2012 wherein they stormed the scene with a series of big releases including their psychedelic influenced ‘Lovers In Limbo’ EP on Kompakt which showcased Blond:ish’s curiosity of the late 60’s musical movement, as well dropping stellar efforts for Noir Music, NM2 and Get Physical.
So with a big year behind them and even bigger 2013 planned with an extensive set of tour dates including Flying Circus in Ibiza at the end of the month and the Chicago leg of the Electric Daisy Carnival, things certainly seem to be looking up for the duo. Quirky and innovative, very much like their native city of Montreal and the organized chaos that have accompanied their sets there since they burst onto the scene with their acclaimed residency at the city’s Cherry Club, we think the mix they’ve delivered from a small village in deepest, darkest Mexico is the perfect thing to get you in the mood for the summer ahead. Enjoy…
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
Electric, quirky, techno'clock, wine'oclock, mexican, melodic, bumpin, rolling, sexy podcast
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Anstascia: Thomas Muller - She's a Woman - BPITCH
Viv: The Persuader- What Is the time Mr Templar - SVEK
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
A couple extra spicy Micheladas with a side of crispy grasshoppers in Tepoztlan (with a few roosters as background noise)
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Definitely would have to be a tie between our gig at Output back in April with Philipp M.A.N.D.Y (because of our NYC crew and sound system) and last saturday at our london beach rave (because of incredible setting by the Thames river and because it was our party lol)
What have you got coming up?
We have a full summer ahead of touring with about 15 shows in ibiza with the Flying Circus crew at Sankeys, Get Phyiscal at the coco loco room in Priviledge and Guy Gerbers wisdom of the glove residency at Pacha.. Sonar festival, Kazantip, SW4 and Burning Man In August will be some of our festival highlights.. and about a billion disco naps in between
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Aliens really do exist. duh.

Aliens really do exist. duh.

For this weeks podcast we managed to secure the services of one of our favorite acts in the form of the genre defying Swede Linus Eklöw, better known to you and me as Style Of Eye. Growing up in the musical hotbed of Stockholm Linus began experimenting with music from an early age from crafting down tempo trip hop to unleashing D&B banger on unsuspecting class mates at school discos whilst taking influence from artists from across the musical spectrum. It is this ability to absorb and appreciate everything from Stevie Wonder to Kraftwerk that has shaped the talented Scandinavians acclaimed sense of eclecticism and won him many a fan after the turn of the millennium for his forward thinking cross pollination of that classic jacking Chicago sound with contemporary European electronica.
Signing with fellows countryman John Dahlbacks label in 2007 Linus never looked back gigging at major festivals and club events throughout the world. Taking the last 12 months as a microcosm, Linus has enjoyed show stopping performances at events like Swedish House Mafia’s record-breaking show at the 35,000 capacity Friends Arena in Stockholm, Pier 94 in New York, Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, Snowbombing and Sunburn Festival in India. As if that wasn’t enough he also has a busy career behind the scenes writing and producing tracks for artists such as Icona Pop, Mike Snow and Fenech Soler as he embraces his mantra of “Music not genres” with him stating “'I’d rather die trying to find that special place where time stands still then to safely repeat the same sounds over and over”. So with that in mind kick back, relax turn this up and prepare to be taken on a musical journey courtesy of Style of Eye…
A slightly self-centred response to follow, but it’s my track After Dark that I´ve done together with Tom Staar.

For this weeks podcast we decided to go deep. Like deep sea diver deep as we bring some classically inspired peak time house from Detroit’s latest electronic music export Golf Clap. We’re not sure why it is that the Motor City continues to be such a hotbed for musical talent but all we can say is that we’re glad that it is.
Bryan Jones & Hugh Cleal only started releasing music together as Golf Clap at the beginning of the year but in such a short period of time have already made serious waves in the scene with iconic figures such as Kerri Chandler, Grant Nelson, and Miguel Migs all sitting up and taking notice signing singles and EPs for release this summer.
Booked solid every weekend for the next 5 months in the US and Europe and smashing it at their montly residency at Grasshopper Underground in Detroit where they play alongside acts like Ian Pooley, Eats Everything, Kevin Saunderson, Jimpster, Detroit Swindle, Mark Farina, John Acquaviva & Steve Lawler, we’re tipping these guys for a big summer and beyond. Remember where you heard about these guys first…

We’re not sure what it is about gritty industrial heartlands that breeds such poignantly great techno but it does. From Berlin to Detroit to East London’s Docklands the landscape just naturally lends itself to the genre. This weeks podcast artist is no exception as Roman Rapeso hailing from the industrialized northern region of France delivers the sort of dark, textured driving techno that can only be conjured whilst living in urban terrain.
Quickly establishing himself in the vibrant Swiss scene after moving there back in 2005 Romano founded one of the countries most credible techno imprints and nights in Teknologik which housed the talents of some of the scene from Marco Carola to Dubfire amongst countless other. A self confessed vinyl junkie with a love of modern technology Romano’s sets often reflect his personality with his passion and enthusiasm shining through. Dark in spots whilst uplifting in others Romano has a style that’s hard to pin down as he experiments with sounds from across the electronic spectrum from Latin rhythms to hypnotic groovy techno numbers to take audiences on a musical journey. Enjoy…
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
A bewitching, voodoo washing machine spinning round and round…
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Alexi Delano –Silk Love – for both its power and gentleness which makes me close my eyes and drift away…
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The intensity of the mix in its entire integrality- I like giving fullness to my sound, to make each element evolve subtly one by one, building a tension which rises and falls until finally culminating with explosive release.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
End of April with Dubfire and Shaded at Arena Club in Mendrisio near Lugano on the Swiss-Italian border. It was pure madness. I played for 3 hours, the crowd was wild and full of energy, arms in the air… the kind of night one dreams of for every weekend!
What have you got coming up?
The 3rd birthday party of my label ‘Teknologik’ on June 1st in Geneva, Switzerland, followed by our own Sonar Off party with some big guest appearances on June 15th in Barcelona, and another label showcase on July 2nd in Sankeys Ibiza with guest appearances by Fabrizio Maurizi, Nastia, Shaded and Justin James. Finally, we will be in Ibiza all summer long having taken a residency in Forgotten (San Antonio) with some exciting and impressive line ups on the cards- but I cant say anymore about it for the moment!
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Take the time to soak in all these sounds full of good vibes…I hope you get as much pleasure in listening to this mix as I did making it and I hope to see you this summer in Ibiza or at any one of our Teknologik parties!
Love, Romano x
