Hard Times, Soul Heaven and John Davis present... The 3 Kings Of House
Electric Brixton - Brixton
David Morales, Louie Vega & Tony Humphries
After a comeback more impressive than Jesus himself, house music institution Hard Times is proud to present The 3 Kings of House at Electric Brixton, London on January 26th bringing together bona fide legends David Morales, Tony Humphries and Louie Vega all headlining. This UK showcase is the first ever of its sort, having happened only twice before, once in Miami and once in New York City.
All three acts have a long history with Hard Times, which in the 90s was one of the first promotions to bring such acts to UK shores. Now, since its return to the scene in June of 2012, there have been 5 sell out parties in Leeds (with Toddy Terry, Kenny Dope and Marshall Jefferson among others allplaying a part in the unbelievable success of Hard Times’ return) proving the demand for the brand is still as high as ever.Hard Times hosted a number of parties in London; the most acclaimed took place at Bagleys Film Studio in Kings Cross, London, in 1993. This is still acclaimed, as one of the greatest house parties ever, with over 30 of the biggest international superstars playing - an event that has never beenequalled to this day. Hard Times see its return to London today as important an event as the first one was all those years ago, especially taking into account the three headliners lined-up and the rarity of the event.
Says Steve Raine, Hard Times founder: “London has always been very kind to Hard Times and always understood the ethos behind it. The city always appreciated the music we represented which is why when London called; we couldn’t resist coming back with a very special event. This is the first of a number of parties planned for London and I can’t wait to get back there. 2012 was all about what Hard Times was; I firmly believe 2013 is about what we are now and what we will be.“
David is an internationally acclaimed Grammy-winning house music DJ and producer who, in addition to his production and DJ work, transforms many pop music songs into club-friendly dance tracks. Since 1993 his albums and tracks like “Needing You” have been seminal, never leaving the record bags of true house fans, whilst as a DJ David was first recognised by Larry Levan and became huge on the NYC scene playing legendary venues like The Loft, Paradise Garage and The Sound Factory.
"Little" Louie Vega, is an American musician of Puerto Rican ancestry. He is one half of the Masters At Work musical production team who started his DJ career spinning records at the age of 13. By 1985, Louie began playing house and block parties in his local Bronx neighbourhood of New York, as well as engineering and mixing. (Erasure's The Two Ring Circusfeatures his earliest dabblings in the studio.) His first nightclub residency was at the Devil's Nest, in the Bronx, and later he moved to Roseland, Studio 54 and the Palladium in Manhattan. During the 1990s, Vega was playing at one of the most influential nightclubs for house music, The Sound Factory Bar. By the mid 1990s, the Masters At Work team had Vega spending less time behind the turntables and more time in the studio as part of the team's remixers.
Tony Humphries has entertained dance music fans across the globe with his “Hump-in-the-Homefries” brand of up-tempo soul music for many years now. This Brooklyn, New York native landed his first “professional” DJ gig at Manhattan’s posh Club El Morocco in 1975 and has never looked back since. It can be said that Tony has left an inerasable impression on the global dance music industry. To date over 300 venues he has gigged worldwide, done over 200 studio remixes, a mix for esteemed London club fabric and many more. Throughout tremendous recognition, tons of awards and accolades from his peers, he hasremained humble.
