After an extremely successful inaugural year, Dimensions festival will be returning to Croatia for 2013 to showcase the world’s best underground electronic music in the beautiful location of an abandoned 19th century fort. Tailored to a discerning crowd, Dimensions aims to deliver once again a remarkable festival of the world’s best live acts and DJs across four nights of carefully curated programming from the team behind Outlook Festival.
Taking place in a multitude of interesting and unique venues including an abandoned fort, a dungeon, a courtyard and a moat, Dimensions explores the best sounds from the deeper end of the electronic spectrum, surrounded by stunning beaches, unspoilt coastlines and the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea.
Confirmed acts for 2013 include Model 500 - pseudonym of Techno pioneer Juan Atkins, plus one of the founders of the seminal Afrobeat genre Tony Allen, and Mala in Cuba – an exciting live prospect marrying Cuban sounds with Mala’s own Jamaican heritage and the UK’s legendary sound system culture. Detroit House and Techno stalwart Moodymann will be returning to the fort after his explosive set last year, as will fellow legends of the scene Theo Parrish and Omar S.
Representing the more soulful side of electronic music will be Benji B alongside Eglo Recordings head honcho Alexander Nut and liquid drum ‘n’ bass purveyor Marcus Intalex who will also be playing as his techno alias Trevino. Germany’s finest Pantha Du Prince will be in attendance with his unique fusion of House, Techno & Indie whilst K7 Record’s Jimmy Edgar and Azealia Bank’s go-to producer Machinedrum will be spinning solo and as a pair for their project JETS. Plus there will be British 3-piece The Invisible and their soulful brand of expansive pop as well as Berlin based outfit Hype Williams.
Caribou’s alias Daphni will also be heading to Croatia as will Swamp 81 chief Loefah and Nonplus record label boss Boddika. Ambient sounds will come courtesy of Mercury nominated Portico Quartet whilst Hessle Audio’s Pearson Sounds, Pangaea and Ben UFO will be on hand with their distinctive sound of percussion fused Dubstep. 2012’s breakthrough House act Huxley will be on hand to deliver his deep sounds alongside breakthrough DJ duo Bicep as will Techno purveyors Pariah and Midland, and Aus Music’s Will Saul aka Close, to name a few.
In addition to the progressive and exciting line-up Dimensions has to offer, the festival’s venue is unlike any other in the world. Taking place in a 19th Century Fort originally built by the Austrians to defend what was their main naval port, Fort Punta Christo with its courtyard, moat, ballroom and dungeon, feels like a re-discovered forgotten world that is transformed into magical venues for the duration of the festival. The city of Pula, in the stunning region of Istria in Croatia, is steeped in history and home to many ancient Roman buildings, including the magnificent amphitheatre, offering festival goers beautiful and unspoiled natural surroundings to enjoy in addition to the festivals vibe and music.
Dimensions looks set to cement its status as a credible and distinctive festival for 2013 and beyond. With many names still to be confirmed, Dimensions will be making more announcements throughout 2013, with details of boat parties and label partners still to be revealed.v
