Taking a brief step away from his usual (and also three lettered) collaborative partner in crime of recent years, BTK, Optiv joins forces with his long time Cause 4 Concern brethren CZA (aka Mark C4C) for a double dose of drum and bass pressure on SGN:LTD.
Leading with 'Bring It Back', its a cut that conjures up a real classic rave feel brought up to date and up to speed as old school house chords and ethereal female harmonies work the intro before it drops with hard drums and pulsing lead synths that make it sound like its the Summer of '88 but with all the punch and emphasis of modern day D&B.
The old school rave theme is continued on the flipside track, 'Don't Look Now'. Here the tone is darkened ever so slightly as Optiv & CZA draw for percussive shuffling breaks to lay the foundation for more ravey stabs and sci-fi atmospherics to get right to work, conjuring up an almost classic Cause 4 Concern jam, as expected from two thirds of the legendary trio. Unadulterated rolling tech vibes.
As SGN:LTD looks to stand independent from its older Shogun Audio sibling after last years rebranding, Optiv & CZA further aid the growing up process with two much more harder pieces of music than we usually come to expect from the label. With continued growth and more strong tracks like this and SGN:LTD will find its feet and cement its new identity in no time.
