‘Helix’ is the fourth single to be taken from Justice’s love it or hate it sophomore album ‘Audio, Video, Disco’. It’s perhaps the only track on the album that re-ignites the earlier more distortion based sounds of their debut.
For the release, a special extended mix of ‘Helix’ is on the package; the original album version is not included. This extended mix will be familiar to those who have seen Justice’s new live shows as essentially, it’s what they’ve been playing live. It incorporates elements of another track, ‘Civilization’ and even the b-side on the release; ‘Presence’ is one of the interludes that make up their live act.
Remixes are provided by Gesaffelstein, who provides his brand of gloomy techno-electro that will no doubt appease fans of his work. However, it’s nothing really new and it’s played quite safe in the end. The other remix is from Domenico Torti who delivers a frantic ‘chop n’ cut’ style of remix much like the early self-remixes Justice used to do.
Overall it’s a solid release. However, it’s probably one for the fans who want to complete their collection of Justice material. It also appears to be a more a teaser for the forthcoming second Justice live album and if you were interested in that, it would probably be worth waiting for that and giving this a miss.
