Anyone who calls their album Gateau Blaster deserves checking out and Paul ‘Cakeboy’ Croler doesn’t disappoint as he tries to translate his experience doing a parachute jump by creating a suitably gliding, billowing tech-house romp shot with the adrenaline rush which goes with it.
Using warm, shimmering Ibiza-friendly tones jolted by dubstep womp punctuation, Cakeboy, previously to be found releasing a single on now-defunct Mutate Records, serves up guaranteed summer dancefloor whoopee, pushing all the right buttons to become an essential ingredient in the more having it mix.
Remixer JFB goes the whole dubstep hog with dense slabs of the original chords while using the womp as more than just icing. This hails from the vibrant scene in Cornwall, Cakeboy reputedly indeed working in gateau heaven down in Truro. This bodes well for the album, of which this is just a slice [Tell me if I’m overdoing the baking entendres]. The pie’s the limit.
