Label: Time Has Changed
Prolific French imprint Time Has Changed has been on a roll of late, with Juan Zolboran’s ‘Wooden Chair’ ensuring they’ve started 2012 with a bang. They've compounded this recent form on their most recent outing with another pair of relative newcomers, Italian duo, Brothers in Progress. And what a great release the ‘Gamblee’ EP is…
Drums, shakers and hissing snares ensure the original makes an immediate impression. Bumping along at a pace that merges vintage New Jersey house with a Latin flair that’s indicative of their growing up in the South, it’s precisely the sort of track that’ll ask questions of even the most discerning dance floors.
German producer Todd Bodine then manipulates the original’s sultry chords to maximum effect, turning in a remix that’s drenched in refined hues. Columbian twosome and sometime Sleep is Commercial pair Figueroa & Obando close off the package with the most menacing record of the lot, with howling wolf noises, eerie chimes and a barrage of reverb emphasising the point. With every producer playing their part, this is an EP that ranks high in the superiority stakes.
