Author walk us through the new album

We've been aware of this for a while here at Data Transmission and having caught the pair playing (sinfully early) in the Tectonic room at Fabric on Friday, we're delighted to report that they've got the live chops to match the quality of the tracks, all of which translate through a sound sytem with groundbreaking oomph.

Author, the collaborative form of Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin - producing deep, cinematic and highly instrumental dubstep, release out their eight-track self-titled LP on Monday the 14th of November. We caught up with the duo as they talk us through the album.

The album 'Author' comes out on Tectonic Monday the 14th Of November 2011, see below to stream the new tunes and to read their track by track break down..

1. Turn feat Ed Thomas
This track is an ode to soulful music and my and Dom's love for jazz. I have always been a fan of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Dwele and Nina Simone. We wanted to try capturing the essence of those blue notes and making it a little heavier. Ed was a pleasure to work with and has a sweet voice. Perfect collab for us really.

2. Sun
Inspired by the shores of Croatia and Outlook festival. Music for lazy days by the beach. Simon Beddoe on brass brought it together in the end.

3. Revolutions
We always intended our music to be themed or carry messages and the Heron sample carried this perfectly. We are big fans of his music.

4. Green and Blue feat. Ben Glass
Our personal favourite on the album, loads of bass and jazz sax noodling. Real winter warmer for me. I have shut my eyes and got lost in this track a few times.

5. Dashiki
Dashiki is warrior dress from Africa...I think.
Tribal thumps and chants ensure a feeling like you’re in some kind of ritual. There's a subtle hint of techno mixed in for the driving force of the tune. This is an interlude of sorts and hopefully fits in the overall texture of the album.

6. Mothership
The darkest track on the album by far, we wanted to put the listener in the shoes of someone who had experienced a close encounter with a UFO and create a feel of dread and suspense. The intro is like a spaceship's engines hovering and then the rest of the story unfolds.

7. Fix
Emotional tune for both me and Dom again. For us it crosses a few boundaries in style, techno, garage and dubstep.  We are looking forward to doing this tune live as it is home listening but transforms on the dancefloor.

8. Drain feat. Simon Beddoe
Drain was born from the love of cinematic orchestra, mo wax and trip hop style beats. We took a risk making it as long as we did but I think we had so many ideas to put into the tune we didn't want to worry about the length of the track.
